Introduction
My name is Benjamin Groeling. I am currently a student at the University of New Mexico. I am working towards a degree in biochemistry. This semester, I have taken a class in Professional and Technical Communication. Throughout this course, we have had three portfolio assignments. Each of these projects has helped to teach us better communication skills and methods.
Professional Letter
For our first portfolio assignment, we were tasked with writing a professional letter. It had to be a specific scenario, where we were making a request or a proposition. I chose to write a letter to the manager at my gym, requesting to transform the pickleball court into a pool or basketball court. This assignment helped me in my letter writing skills, as well as how to better express my concerns in a professional setting.

Resume and Cover Letter
For our second portfolio assignment, we were tasked with creating a professional resume. This was honestly very helpful, as it ended with me having a ready to use resume that I could send to potential employers. This experience helped me to organize all of my previous working experience and tailored it make me look professional. We were also tasked with writing a cover letter, as if we were actually applying for a position. This was very helpful practice and it gave an idea of what the actual experience would be like.
Persuasive Letter
For our third and final portfolio assignment, we were tasked with writing another letter. This time it was meant to be persuasive. We had to give background information on ourself and the issue at hand. We had to have a step by step plan of action and analysis. We also had to have a timeline of the whole process. This was an extremely helpful project, as it helped to teach all the steps to turn an idea into a reality. In order to execute a plan, you have to communicate. This project helped to develop those skills.

Conclusion
I really enjoyed taking this class. It helped to develop better writing skills. It also taught me how to format myself to a professional standard. This class was very intuitive and each assignment left me with something I could show to an employer. I feel like I have grown as a writer, in how I structure and how I prepare myself to write. I also feel more organized in how I draft and execute a plan, in my writing and in general.
